Could We See the $2,000 Checks by Christmas?

Past Stimulus Checks and Rebate Programs

Earlier this year, Trump suggested a $2,000 tariff rebate check in a bill introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley, called the American Worker Rebate Act of 2025. The plan would have issued checks between $600 and $2,400 to American taxpayers, but it has not passed Congress.

In February, Trump also floated the idea of $5,000 stimulus checks in the form of a “DOGE dividend,” tied to savings identified by Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). No further details have been released regarding the DOGE dividend’s feasibility.

Three prior COVID-era stimulus checks were issued: the first in March-April 2020, the second by Jan. 15, 2021, and the third from March to December 2021, with the April 15, 2025, deadline to claim the last one now passed.

Stimulus checks differ from rebates or dividends in that they are direct payments to consumers meant to stimulate the economy, whereas rebates are partial refunds and dividends are profit distributions to shareholders.

Speculation about a fourth stimulus check has circulated online, but there is no official confirmation from Congress or the IRS. Any such claims should be treated cautiously to avoid misinformation or fraud.
