Around 248,000 retailers across the country are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. This program is meant to help its citizens buy all the necessary groceries in order to stay healthy. While for most of us, this program is definitely a good one, there are a lot of retailers that don’t accept EBT cards anymore. That’s awful! I wonder: Is your favorite restaurant or fast food chain on the list? If you’re curious to know this and many more things about this particular subject, continue reading our article.

First, we will start with the bad news; later on in the text, you will also discover some amazing ones. Let’s go through them together!

1. Starbucks

Because food stamp cards are typically not accepted as payments at company-owned stores, this is undoubtedly terrible news for all Starbucks customers. Some licensees of the business, especially those that run grocery stores, may take advantage of SNAP benefits. But before using the card to pay for your order, it’s advisable to get more information.

2. Burger King

If you want to use Snap benefits and your EBT card to buy your meals at Burger King restaurants, I have bad news for you. They don’t accept this sort of payment anymore; however, similar to Starbucks, it is better to ask before the purchase. A lot of sources say that only if you are from California or Arizona are you eligible to pay with your EBT card.

How do you feel about these changes? Tell us in the comments.

3. Pizza Hut

Are you in for a tasty and steamy pizza for lunch? I guess you’ll have to go somewhere else if you want to pay with your EBT card because Pizza Hut doesn’t accept Snap benefits anymore. Unless you are from California! There are some lucky citizens out there since they are also able to purchase stuff from Burger King! Are you from California? If so, be kind and leave us a comment to tell us how it feels to be from such a wonderful place.

4. Little Caesars

Another place that doesn’t allow you to pay with your EBT card is the famous pizza place called Little Caesars. Known for its amazingly delicious pizza, Little Caesars is the third-biggest American pizza chain after Pizza Hut and has locations all over the country, especially in Texas, Michigan, and California.

But if you’re from California, I have some good news for you! There are still only a few Little Caesars restaurants in California that accept EBT. In San Diego County, Little Caesars specifically accepts EBT at the Palm Avenue and Otay Lakes Road locations. Given the roughly 600 Little Caesars stores in California and the 4,100+ sites across the US, that is statistically insignificant.

5. Dominos

Unfortunately, Domino’s won’t make an exception to the rule unless you’re a citizen of Arizona or California. Domino’s accepts payments with EBT cards in these places. If the rules changed between now and the time this article was published, we suggest you to ask the cashier about the internal rules and if they accept snap payment or not.

6. Pet food stores

We didn’t mention any particular pet food store because, in general, you are not allowed to buy animal food with snap benefits. It’s crucial to remember that SNAP payments can only be used on authorized food items. The card cannot be used to purchase gasoline, tobacco, alcohol, lottery tickets, or cooked food. Benefits are restricted to specific domestic items and food that must be prepared at home by the buyer.

That’s why many SNAP participants with service animals find it difficult to pay for food for both themselves and their companions, which can be a major obstacle to getting access to essential programs and resources. So in order to be 100% sure, you better ask the retailer if they accept Snap or not.

6. Costco

Of course, Costco is on the list of retailers that offer the option of paying for your groceries with an EBT card. That’s magnificent! I mean besides having superb products that are fresh most of the time now you can use your Snap benefits to buy all the stuff that you need. One must love America for sure!

7. Walmart

Another warehouse that allows its customers to use Snap Payments is, of course, Walmart. As in the case of Costco, it is no surprise to put Walmart on this list! Being among the most preferred stores for the entire American nation, Walmart also wants to offer the best for its loyal shoppers. I guess that’s one of the main reasons we’re heading back to Walmart over and over again, in my case at least once a week. Plus if you want to do your shopping online, you should know that EBT online payments are also accepted at Walmart. See? One more reason to do your weekly shopping here!

In your case, how often do you use Snap Payment? Are you happy that these two big retailers are on the list? Tell us in the comments.

8. Amazon

Even though the pandemic restrictions were lifted last year, there are still a lot of people who want to avoid in-store shopping as much as possible. It may be because of the crowd or simply because they are busy human beings who don’t have time to walk around every aisle to pick up their groceries and prefer to pay more for the products to be delivered to their door. If you’re one of them, I have good news for you: there are some stores that accept Snap benefits for online orders! Yahoo, that’s amazing! And one of them is Amazon.

With the exception of Hawaii, Louisiana, Alaska, and Montana, Amazon allows SNAP EBT card purchases for its grocery delivery and pickup service, Amazon Fresh, in all states in the U.S.

For free delivery from Amazon Fresh, your order must have a minimum value of $35, but there are some parts of the country where the value must be a minimum of $50. Orders under this threshold can incur charges and are not included in the SNAP initiative.

…psst! Check out this item from Amazon that can be purchased with EBT cards!

9. Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, and Dollar General

I hope you’re happy to know this! At least I am, because despite the ups and downs, my experience at the Dollar Store was always quite satisfying. From food to decorations or cleaning supplies and electronic devices, these stores are always life savers. Plus every time I shop from there, my wallet is also quite happy too!

With your Snap benefits you can buy a variety of things, including non-alcoholic drinks, food snacks, and seeds that can help you cultivate your own vegetables and fruits for the family. However, the general and most important rule is that all the foods that are being sold hot cannot be purchased with your EBT card.
