1. Hand tools

You need to have hand tools at home because you never know when you might need them for a quick and easy repair around the house. But they can be pretty expensive if you want to buy them brand-new and in a big set.

However, you can find a wide variety of pre-owned hand tools that are both high-quality and affordable. You can look on Craigslist, go to garage sales in your neighborhood, or even on Facebook Marketplace to look for something that fits your needs.

There are many people who bought all sorts of things, and now they no longer need them, and instead of throwing them away, they sell them for a lot less. So you are more likely to find the things you’re looking for and get them at great prices.

… Before you give your money to the original owner, ask them if they will allow you to test the item to see if it’s properly working or not! Some experts recommend looking for tools from brands like Craftsman, which offers considerable certificates!

    1. Be careful. Most Goodwill’s are getting more expensive. Somehow a lot of them use that name just to get shoppers. Second hand thrift stores lead the way!

  1. I buy most of my clothes at a resale shop, shoes that are sometimes new for under$10, jeans for $2.50. – $5.00, a like new jacket for under $10 etc. Just need to check frequently and buy what you will use but do not wait til you need a specific item and have high expectations of finding it.

  2. Textbooks. Nowadays many professors are a little more forgiving when it comes to buying textbooks you will use for 16 weeks and then are likely to never open it again. Amazon and affiliates are good at offering textbooks of different editions and professors often allow students to purchase older editions that are less expensive. And Amazon et. al. are good at categorizing texts by quality and price and you can get a good deal depending on what you can tolerate (bent cover or smoothed edges etc.)

    1. No Don letter, it’s called getting what you want for less. I’d rather spend less for the same thing while reducing landfill waste and enjoy the treasure hunt while I’m finding it. We both got the item, I just have more $ left in my pocket 🙄

  3. VERY DUMB QUESTION…THIS IS NOT A FREE FOR ALL. HOWEVER, WE KNOW WHERE WE’RE HEADED AND THEY WILL DO WHAT THEY WANT ANYWAY. WHY ON EARTH SHOULD WE SUPPORT THE WHOLE PLANET? OH, BECAUSE “THEY” WANT A ONE WORLD ORDER, RELIGION, CURRENCY AND UNIVERSAL INCOME. This is NOT what God wants that’s for sure. This is EXACTLY why He’s on his way back, too much DEMONIC ACTIVITY GOING ON!

  4. Watch out on used furniture. COCKROACH EGGS! Or have it treated by your exterminator before you take it into your home.

I like shopping 2nd hand on many things, not just clothing but things, such as, automobiles, some kitchen appliances, tools, craft supplies, household decoration ornamentation, unique picture frames and shadow boxes, yard equipment and tools, some furniture items, etc…I could go on forever! There is nothing like redoing, remodeling, repairing, restoring and repurposing MANY items for reuse. The feeling you get from recycling is a definite added plus, as well.
  6. I want to buy stuff brand new cause you don’t have to worry about it braking down or smelling other people sent when you buy clothes I buy brand new cause I like the newness smell a cop told me to come to his car to give him information about my insurance and I smell his car I told him it’s a brand new car smell he says he just got the car yesterday I was enjoying the smell and he had the a/c going I said I’ll be glad when I get a brand new car and a home but some used things are ok like newly new I bought me a new car and it still had the newness smell in it I still smell it to day .

  7. I do believe there may be a few exceptions here. Most of the items mentioned I agreed with, However I do not agree with some used furniture. In our current economy; Even purchasing at a yard sale can be ok, but many individuals totally believe they can get near new prices for old furniture. (condition variable).
Now one thing I would like to add to the list is Holiday decorations specifically Christmas. Over the years I have purchased some really pretty decorations at very reasonable prices.

  8. Dishes, pots and pans. Shop Good Will, second hand stores. My family passes a lot of cast iron skillets, recipes, dishes through generation to generation.
    Christmas ornaments.
    Pictures and frames

  9. Thanks so much for this I knew all of these already but it’s good to let young people know new is not always better

  10. You SHOULD buy your Mattress NEW! I run a mattress store and I tell my customers, “The problem with used mattresses, the bed bugs come at no extra cost!”

  11. I bought most of my college books used and saved a heap of money. I will also go to what I call a high end thrift shop for dresses for special occasions, furniture. As well. There are some bargain stores that sell items from stores who could not sell all their inventory. My son bought an extra refrigerator/ freezer that stands over five feet and is about 24 inches wide and at least 24 inches deep. It’s in case his old one dies and he needs a temp replacement fast. It’s stainless steel and cost him 167.00 a bargain. He bought me a hand vacuum for 25. That went for 100. on line. They also have new shoes and clothes at basement bargain prices. Don’t buy new until you check out what is in your area. They even have drink and snack items. Powdered Gatorade -40 packages for 5. You can make 20 ounces from one package. I was paying 6/7 dollars for 8 already made Gatorade drinks/ the savings!!!

  12. I agree with most of this stuff, but when buying a car if you buy a certified preowned car check out the interest rate. Then check the interest rate on a new car in most cases in the long run you’ll be paying less money for the new car, then you would be the used certified preowned so give it a shot. Lots of times manufacturers give you a really good interest rate on new cars.

  13. I recently got turned on to open box purchases! My HP laptop suddenly died.
I bought a Lenovo laptop and 2 TP-Link WiFi range extenders for half of the new price. The down side was my laptop was missing the user manual but the vendor included a laptop carrying case in compensation.

  14. I usually take advantage to free clothing shops locally .summer yard sales and freebie boxes…at times curb side freebies in clues furniture!! Frequent my local libraries!!

  15. I like having several translations of the Bible to compare and contrast. It’s like stereoscopic vision. I like having old favorites close at hand in readable print and a beautiful cover when possible like like the copy of OHenry’s short stories I can see from here. I have many books, some long out of print, on making toys and I use them to plan new projects. Sometimes planning these projects is as much fun as carrying them out although several young friends and I had a lot of fun doing one lately. When I was about 7 years old my parents [ardent readers both] took me to a bookstore and while there let me choose a book. I asked for and got two. But I still have and still use both of them. One is a fold away dollhouse and the other a basic book on needlework with emphasis on toymaking.

  16. I’ve never owned a brand new vehicle. Also, I have found really great gently worn clothing for my kids and myself at thrift stores and Goodwill.
