IRS Pandemic Refund Window Extended: See If You Qualify!

The Deadline You Can’t Miss

While this opportunity is significant, it’s not open-ended.

Tax refunds are generally subject to a statute of limitations. In most cases, you must file a claim within:

  • Three years from the date you filed your return, or
  • Two years from the date you paid the tax

However, because the court ruling effectively shifts certain deadlines forward, many taxpayers now have until July 10, 2026 to submit a claim related to pandemic-era penalties.

After that date, the window could close permanently. This is why acting sooner rather than later is critical.
