Mississippi: Gautier

If you are a wildlife and nature lover, then we have to get back to Mississippi when it comes to the best beach towns for retired homebuyers. Not only does Gautier have the amazing landscapes that any other beach city would, but it is also surrounded by bayous and wetlands, which can bring about all you would ever want from a landscape and nature-filled area.

A rock’s throw away from Pascagoula, Gautier has the advantage that, besides the silky white beaches and amazing qualities that any great beach city brings, it also has easier access to natural parks, preserves, and wetlands, making the area more interesting for those of us who love being out in nature and being able to go on some amazing hikes. Likewise, you can also end up getting your own boat, start fishing, and even do some watersports if they are in your area.

Gautier is a bit more expensive to buy a home in than its neighboring Magnolia state beach town, which we have recommended to retired homebuyers. The average price per square meter is still under $100, coming up to $92 here. Quite a steep increase when you compare it, but still a lot more affordable than other beach towns in more tourist-filled areas.

If you are intrigued by the area, we recommend you take one or two vacations here to test out the waters!

If you decide to move to Mississippi or you already live in the state, make sure you explore all the Magnolia state has got to offer by reading how to get off the beaten path!
