8 Aldi Products That Didn’t Live Up to the Hype

We all love a good deal, am I right? So, Aldi feels like a day at Disneyland for budget-conscious shoppers. Those who want to save as much as possible usually do their regular shopping at Aldi. However, even though the brand’s items are extremely affordable, everything adds up. For example, you walk for a loaf of bread and some snacks, but end up seeing some cheese at a great price… Oh, and also some candles that smell like heaven and will make a great gift for your wife.

So, even though your cart will be full in just a few minutes, at least, your total isn’t horrifying. That’s what keeps you going shopping at Aldi.

Even though I love the brand, I have to admit that some of the products were extremely disappointing. For example, I recently bought that famous store-brand yogurt and it tasted horrible. It was super watery, I even couldn’t finish it. I also had bad experiences with the Aldi-brand soda and some snacks that tasted like someone forgot to add flavor.

So, sometimes saving might not be a good idea. The quality of the products you purchase shouldn’t be overlooked. I took my time and researched Aldi’s frequent shoppers’ disappointments. And here I am, teaching you how to keep saving while also having the best products for yourself. Are you ready to find which products to skip at Aldi? Continue reading.

These Aldi products are not worth your money!

 1. Chicken

Like other popular grocery stores, a lot of types of meat can be found at Aldi. However, pay attention and take a good look at a chicken package before adding it to your cart. Frequent shoppers said that Aldi’s chicken is not the best one, especially when it comes to appearance. The breast, for example, tends to have a really chewy unappetizing texture.

If you still want to purchase meat from this brand, at least do your best to find the best option from the shelves.

2. Cream cheese

The Aldi’s version of Philadelphia Cream Cheese disappointed more shoppers than you can even imagine. This specific product teaches us that sometimes spending more on the name brand is simply better and smarter.

Most of the reviews I read from the shoppers said that the Aldi cream cheese is far from tasting as good as Philadelphia.

3. Chips

We all love a good snack. Well, Aldi’s chips often disappoint. Some shoppers say that the chips are extremely salty, while others complain about their poor flavor.

Even though there is a wide variety of alternatives, maybe the best would be to skip some of them when you shop. My advice would be to stay away from the Aldi’s store brand chips and opt for the other available options.

4. Freezer bags

Aldi has its own freezer bags, which can be extremely handy when you want to store items in your freezer. I bought some of these for our home and I was disappointed to find that the bags don’t seal well.

Unfortunately, my wife created a mess with some items that ended up leaking into our freezer. So, trust me when I tell you that it’s best to stay away from this Aldi product.

5. Bagels

We love bagels for a good breakfast. They are also great when we crave some sandwiches for lunch. However, me and my wife always skip Aldi, especially when it comes to bread and bagels.

According to customers, brand names are way better than Aldi’s store brand for bagels, even though they will cost you more.

A frequent shopper wrote on a platform that the bagels at Aldi are always too dry and feel borderline stale. So, pay attention to what you consume and stay away from the products that might affect your health.

6. Deli meats

Considering that Aldi doesn’t have a traditional deli counter, you will have to opt for packaged sliced meat. So, opting for a packaged alternative instead of deli-quality options could be an issue as the meats at Aldi are not that high in quality.

Shoppers often complain about the quality that doesn’t match their local grocery store. Some of them even described Aldi’s meats as being ”disgusting”.

A sad face and question mark hover over a cup of coffee and a labeled Aldi bag.

7. Coffee

I am a huge coffee lover, and I can easily recognize a good coffee brand. So, trust me when I say that Aldi’s selection of coffees is far from being great. Most of the available coffees on the brand’s shelves are pre-ground and not whole-bean.

I prefer fresh coffee that has been recently roasted. I always avoid those annoying Aldi brands and I grind the beans at home.

You know that strong aromas you can smell even from an unopened bag? Well, Aldi’s coffee can’t even compete with that.

8. Cereal

I would say that the cereals found at Aldi’s can be a hit or a miss. For example, there are some Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereals that our grandkids really love.

However, pay attention when you opt for dupes because I discovered that Aldi’s Cheerios dupes contain a lot of wheat, which is a big problem if you are gluten intolerant.

This information is also important when it comes to oatmeal. Unlike Trader Joe’s where there are a lot of gluten-free options, Aldi’s oats are not certified gluten-free, representing an essential distinction for frequent shoppers.

Here are some mistakes you should avoid at ALDI

  • An illustration of a shopper walking past a chaotic aisle of random non-grocery items at Aldi.
A skeptical shopper walks past a lawnmower and candles in the cluttered Aldi Finds aisle.

    Skipping the Aldi finds aisle

We all know that not all Aldi products are a hit, but you should always pay attention to the Aldi Finds aisle. It’s located near the middle of most stores. I think you should know that every Wednesday new Aldi finds are released in most stores. When there are some great deals available, you need to hurry up in order to benefit from them because they usually sell out incredibly fast.

Since I discovered the aisle, I always make sure to check which are the discounted products or the new arrivals at the market.

Oh, and never consider shopping at Aldi just for the groceries! There are a lot of great household essentials you need to check out. For example, some of my wife’s favorite purchases include a set of bed sheets.

  • An illustration of a hand-written grocery list where 'Candles' has been crossed out to stay on budget.
A hand holds a grocery list with items checked and crossed off to avoid making impulse purchases.

    Sticking to a list

Sticking to a list when you visit a supermarket that has EVERYTHING, is good and bad at the same time. Aldi is constantly bringing new items around the store, especially seasonal ones. So, trust me, sticking to a list is not always necessary.

Walk through the market without a plan and you will be amazed by how many great things you’ll find. Oh, and don’t worry! You are not going to break the bank! Aldi’s items are extremely affordable.

  • A person struggling to carry a pile of loose groceries at their car after forgetting to bring reusable bags.

    Not bringing reusable bags

Do you still go shopping without reusable bags? You should immediately change that habit. I used to spend a lot of money on shopping bags each time I went shopping. Since I stopped, I saw an improvement not only in my wallet but also in the way I organize my items at the cashier after I pay for them.

You may already know that Aldi encourages shoppers to bring their own bags and help reduce waste. I find it really easy to have a set of reusable bags in my car and use them whenever I need them. I sincerely regret all the years I spent struggling with the poor-quality bags found at most of the supermarkets.

Are you looking for a set of reusable bags? I’ve got you covered! The one that I use can be found on Amazon, and until now, I didn’t use anything better. The size of the bags, the box shape… everything is perfect. Make sure to place your order right now and try the bags as soon as possible. You will not regret the purchase!
