IRS Guidance: How to Prepare for the 2026 Tax Filing Season

The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to start preparing now, especially given the complexity of the new law.

“It is important for taxpayers to get ready now because the One, Big, Beautiful Bill can significantly affect federal taxes, credits, and deductions,” the agency said in a recent press release.

Gather Essential Tax Documents Early

To avoid filing delays and errors, the IRS recommends organizing:

  • W-2 forms
  • 1099 forms (for contract work, investment income, and bank interest)
  • Records of deductions, tax credits, and retirement contributions

Taxpayers should wait to file until all required documents are received, but having everything ready early can help streamline the process.
