5. Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express — Best for grocery & streaming spenders

Why it’s great: 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $6,000 per calendar year, then 1%) plus strong cash back on select streaming services and other categories. If your household grocery and streaming bills are high, this card can substantially outperform flat-rate competitors even after paying its annual fee (if applicable at the time you apply).

Who should get it: Families and heavy grocery shoppers who will hit the supermarket cap and want maxed-out category returns.

Tip: If you shop a lot at superstores (Walmart/Target), double-check merchant coding—those may not always count as “supermarket” for the AmEx bonus.
