How Much Will You Receive?

For May 2026, the maximum federal SSI payment remains unchanged at $994 for individuals. Couples who qualify may receive up to $1,491, while certain essential caregivers can receive payments of up to $498. However, not every recipient will receive the maximum amount.

The actual payment a person receives depends on several factors, including their income, financial resources, and living arrangements. For example, individuals who receive additional support from family members or have other sources of income may see a reduced SSI benefit. Similarly, those living in shared housing or receiving in-kind support may not qualify for the full amount.

Despite these variations, the maximum payment figures serve as a benchmark and highlight the level of support available through the program. For many recipients, even a partial SSI payment can make a meaningful difference in covering daily expenses.
