Tips for Planning Your Visit in 2026

To make the most of your visit to a Social Security office this year:

1. Check Operating Hours Before You Go

Although most offices follow the 9 a.m.–4 p.m. schedule, local variations can occur. Use the SSA Office Locator to find your specific office and verify hours before you travel.

2. Schedule Ahead

Because appointments are increasingly the norm, calling ahead or using official online tools helps ensure you don’t waste a trip.

3. Avoid Holiday Weekdays

Certain months (especially around January, February, and November) have multiple closures due to federal holidays. Plan non-urgent visits on dates away from these busy periods.

4. Prepare Your Documentation

Bring all necessary identification, benefit statements, and paperwork to avoid delays — especially for benefits claims.

5. Use Phone and Online Resources First

Before heading to an office, check whether your issue can be resolved online or over the phone — this often saves a lot of time.
