10 Best Credit Cards to Use for Amazon Purchases

August 19, 2022 · Personal Finance

With millions of interesting things at your fingertips, it’s no wonder that people spend a lot of money on Amazon. Whether you’re an occasional or a frequent Amazon shopper, you’ll want to use a credit card that maximizes your purchases from the online retail giant.

However, choosing which card is best for Amazon purchases requires more than evaluating just point-earning rates; you have to analyze other factors like purchase protection, rewards currencies, and extended warranties.

In some circumstances, you may want to consider different credit cards depending on the type of purchase. Furthermore, your best option may differ depending on what other cards you already have or whether you’re a Prime member.

If you want a rewards-earning credit card, check out our list of the 10 best credit cards to use for Amazon. Can you guess the No.1?

10. Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards Credit Card

What’s really cool about this credit card is that it allows customizing your cash back categories, so they match your spending habits. If you frequently make Amazon purchases, simply select online shopping as your main category to get 3% cash back on all purchases. But that’s not all: you’ll also get 2% cash back at grocery stores as well as at wholesale clubs, and 1% cash back on everything else.

This credit card comes with no annual fee, which is awesome. In addition, the sign-on bonus stands out by giving you $200 online cash rewards if you spend $1,000 within the first 90 days following the account opening.

9. Amazon Business Prime American Express Card

If your business requires making frequent Amazon purchases, then you may want to try the Amazon Business Prime American Express Card. It also works at AWS and Whole Foods and offers 5% cash back on every purchase. If you want, you can exchange the cash-back benefit for a 90-day 0% APR financing deal on any qualified purchase.

This credit card also earns 2% cash back at US gas stations, US restaurants, and on wireless telephone plans purchased via US providers, as well as 1% cash back on other kinds of purchases.

You don’t have to pay any annual fees, but you’ll have to get yourself an Amazon Prime membership first. Once your application is approved, you’ll be sent an Amazon Gift Card of $125 as well as access to a variety of expense management tools.

8. The Platinum Card (American Express)

The American Express Platinum Card is a very versatile tool that offers a wide range of benefits such as complimentary elite status with Marriott and Hilton, airport lounge access, as well as annual statement credits for Saks and Uber.

Although the card doesn’t provide bonus points for Amazon purchases (unless the purchase qualifies for an Amex Offer), the $10,000 purchase protection is ideal for those business owners who make a lot of high-value Amazon purchases.

You’ll want to make sure you can take advantage of as many benefits though, as this credit card comes with a pretty expensive annual fee of $695.

7. Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card (American Express)

The Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card from American Express is a fantastic option for Amazon purchases because it offers 1 American Express Membership Rewards point for every dollar you spend on non-bonus category items, including Amazon.

On top of that, Amex Offers often runs bonus-point specials on Amazon purchases, allowing you to collect even more rewards per spend. If you make more than 30 purchases per statement period, Amex will give you a 50% points bonus. The current bonus on the credit card is 15,000 Membership Rewards points after spending $1,000 within the first three months following the account opening.

Those points are worth 2 cents each, thus this bonus would be worth $300. This is somewhat low for a credit card with a $95 annual fee, but the spending threshold to qualify for the bonus is also lower than that of most mid-tier cards.

6. Citi Double Cash Card

Recommend by most financial advisors as one of the best credit cards to use for Amazon purchases, the Citi Double Cash Card provides 2% cash back on all types of purchases made at Amazon (and also everywhere else), divided into 1% cash back once you make the purchase and 1% cash back when the bill is paid.

The good news is that there is no annual fee and also a 0% introductory APR on balance transfers for 18 months. The bonus categories are pretty straightforward, so you won’t have to worry about them; also, no confusing earning structure — you’ll be rewarded each time you use your card.

5. Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card

If you don’t own an Amazon Prime Membership and don’t make enough Amazon purchases that qualify for Prime shipping to make the annual fee worthwhile, we recommend the Amazon Rewards Visa Signature Card for you.

This credit card is a ‘light’ version of the co-branded Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card, and you can use it to collect 3% cash back on all Amazon purchases, 2% cash back at restaurants, drugstores, and gas stations, and 1% on all other kinds of purchases. Once you’re done with the application process, a $50 Amazon Gift Card will be automatically added to your Amazon account.

4. American Express Gold Card

If you purchase lots of high-value products from Amazon, the American Express Gold Card is a smart choice. As a cardholder, you can collect 1 Membership Rewards point per every dollar spent on Amazon purchases, but you can also benefit from a pretty generous protection policy. This perk provides a stunning $10,000 in protection per incident with a $50,000 limit over one year.

If you want to boost your return on spending, use the credit card to purchase Amazon gift cards at participating supermarkets and you’ll collect 4 points per every dollar you spend, which is equivalent to an 8% return.

Extra benefits are dining credits of up to $120 yearly at select locations and Uber cash credits of up to $120 yearly.

3. Discover It Cash Back

If your spending habits include frequently making Amazon purchases, you may want to earn some cashback as well, and Discover It Cash Back is another great option for that.

This credit card works on an earning-rate principle that’s based on rotating categories. This means that there’s no guarantee that Amazon will be a part of every quarter. Even so, when this happens, you’ll be able to earn 5% cash back on Amazon purchases of up to $1500.

Even when Amazon isn’t included in the quarterly bonus category, you’ll still collect 1% cash back on your purchases. As an extra bonus, Discover will also double your rewards once your first year of card membership ends.

2. Chase Freedom Unlimited

If you’re not a Prime member but still want to take advantage of a good return for your purchases, the Chase Freedom Unlimited credit card is an excellent option. You’ll collect 5% cash back on travel purchased via Chase, 3% cash back on dining and drugstore purchases, and 1.5% cash back on all other kinds of purchases.

You can pair the card with an Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, Chase Sapphire Preferred Card, or Chase Sapphire Reserve to turn your cashback points into Ultimate Rewards points that are worth 2 cents each.

Once you do this, you can use those points for Amazon purchases or for purchasing gift cards. As an extra benefit, the card provides both extended warranty protection and purchase protection.

1. Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Card

If you already have Amazon Prime, then you must carry an Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card. It doesn’t have an annual fee and all cardholders receive 5% cash back on Whole Foods and Amazon purchases, as well as 2% cash back at gas stations, restaurants, and drugstores, and 1% cash back on all other kinds of purchases.

Once you’re done with the application process, you’ll be sent a gift card of $100 directly to your Amazon account. Extra benefits include extended warranty protection and purchase protection, as well as the usual Visa signature benefits.
