Booyah! 2022 went by so fast, and in less than 3 months it will be over. The good news is that the holidays are coming, and it’s time for family gatherings again. I honestly can’t wait! But with that, let’s not forget about Black Friday and its awesome benefits of buying various items at very good prices. Even though it’s not until late November when the biggest selling season kicks off, it’s never too early to prepare your budget for it. It’s pretty important to create a checklist for what you’re planning to buy and check every significant detail about the product.

Furthermore, this is the biggest shopping day of the year and comes right after Thanksgiving, so you should have some extra money set aside exclusively for this event. Whether you are going to buy holiday gifts for your family or some little things for yourself, scoring the best Black Friday deals means that you need to start early. To play into customers’ favor, a lot of retailers are launching their best deals long before Black Friday.

1. Set your budget

Setting a budget is probably the most important thing that you can do when you’re planning on buying something on Black Friday. What am I going to buy? What do I need the most? Nail down all the items that you absolutely need, including holiday and anniversary gifts or any other purchases that you’ve been saving for. This step will help you decide how much you can afford to spend for this occasion and if you can be flexible about shopping or not.

If you have a big family like I do, then maybe writing down a list of all the people that you’re shopping for will help you decide on what to buy. Shopping is never easy, especially around the holiday season, but this tip might help you get through Black Friday and buy the best products at a very good deal.

2. Do your research well before Friday rolls around

Black Friday is a golden opportunity to buy your favorite items for an affordable price that will even make your wallet smile. When you spot something that you want to buy, it’s better to do a little bit of research beforehand by reading other people’s reviews, so you won’t be surprised by the quality of the product. This year, almost everything will be more expensive due to inflation and also increased demand, so it’s important to be aware of the season’s best deals. This way, you can line up what you need and what you are mandated to buy.

If you’re planning on shopping online, don’t forget about the price comparisons! This is a must, especially if you want to get the best Black Friday deal. Despite being an easier alternative to in-store shopping, it may come with a few drawbacks. For example, last year, a lot of websites crashed because of the intense traffic, and many purchases couldn’t be completed. What a mess! I really hope this doesn’t happen to you this year.

This year, Black Friday might start a bit earlier than usual. On November 26th to be exact. But as a matter of fact, a lot of retailers have decided to launch their deals long before the actual date. This might be a good way to get your holiday shopping done even before Thanksgiving. That would be a blessing for sure! Looking for early-bird discounts gives you a better opportunity of getting your items on time if they run out of stock because of higher than expected demands. Keep an eye on the items from your Wishlist and check on various websites for their prices. Some retailers might offer a better discount, and the products may sell out pretty quickly!

4 .Check the Ads and Apps

Even if I try to limit my time spent on social media when Black Friday is knocking at my door, I make a habit out of checking every good deal that might appear. Because a lot of retailers start sharing their ads long before the actual shopping day, you will have plenty of time to start shopping. Many stores are also offering more information regarding their early deals on their apps. Then, if you have a favorite store, download their app in order to receive their latest offer, because some of them have an awesome push notification feature that helps you stay up to date with the sales. In case you don’t get along that well with the apps and such, you can also join retailers’ email lists to keep updated.

Additionally, make sure you check these accounts for coupons before you hit the deals because some of them give out a few extra discounts. If you want to go in-store, don’t forget to check your local newspaper for the printable coupons to take them with you as well!

5. Avoid buying things you don’t need

The temptation of Black Friday has always been associated with the incredible discounts that we see in stores. And this event can be really awesome, especially if you’re trying to buy a gift for the winter holidays. However, it’s easy to pick up a little extra something for yourself because you can’t resist the urge. But seriously, is this even a good idea? Avoiding an impulse purchase might be easier when you’re choosing to shop exclusively online.

Especially if you’re trying to save more money for the holiday season that’s fast approaching! When you have multiple family members, it can become a little overwhelming to choose the right gift. Maybe you got lucky and already know what you want to buy! Having a list will help you avoid overspending by not buying too many things.

6. Have a backup plan for gifts

Last year, many items were sold out in the blink of an eye, and it appears that this year will be the same. This is great for sellers, but what about the customers? Most of them were disappointed because their favorite item was sold out in less than 2 hours. That’s insane! To avoid this, it might be best to have a backup plan in case the item is no longer in stock. For example, if you wanted to buy a new laptop for your grandson but by the time you opened the browser, it was sold out, then you must have another backup gift idea. Add multiple products to the list from which you can choose, and maybe being curious during the year regarding their preferences is not a bad idea!

Even if this may sound unpleasant, a lot of other people are hunting down the discounts as much as you are. Some of them are lucky enough to get them in time, but if this is not your case, don’t get discouraged! I am sure you can find something else that fits your needs.

7. Plan for shipping delays

During the discount season, I am always overeager and I can’t wait to have my favorite item in my hands as soon as possible. Right after I place the order, I keep on checking my email to see if there’s any update. Haha! That’s so silly of me! But seriously now, this is basically a bit impossible, especially if you are buying online.

A lot of other people are in the same situation as you. That’s why most retailers alert you to deadlines for ordering to make sure that your gifts will arrive in time for the holidays. Anyway, you must be prepared for shipping delays, and if you really need the product, you must look for alternatives (that’s where my back-up plan idea comes in handy!).

However, if you’re cutting it close and you order the gift right before the holiday, some stores may give you the opportunity to pay an extra shipping cost for faster delivery.

8. Be kind to everyone

Kindness is a virtue! This is especially true in this case because, with all of the chaos and lines at every store, a large number of employees are affected. Try to put yourself in their shoes for a couple of hours. They work extremely hard at times, and in most cases, they put in lots of overtime as well. All this to make the customer happy! Often enough, they have to deal with a lot of angry people that come to the stores and wait in lines for hours just to buy their favorite product.

Please be nice and kind to all the sales associates! It won’t cost you anything, and moreover, if you can’t control other people’s attitudes, try to at least be “a ray of sunshine in someone else’s stressful day”!
