The Bottom Line
While DMV rules do change as you age, they’re not designed to take away your independence—they’re meant to support safe driving for everyone on the road.
Most seniors will never need to retake a full driving test. Instead, you’re far more likely to encounter vision checks, shorter renewal cycles, and in-person visits.
By understanding these requirements early—especially if you’re planning a move—you can avoid surprises and stay fully in control of your mobility.
Because at the end of the day, staying behind the wheel isn’t just about driving—it’s about maintaining your freedom, your routine, and your way of life.
Not that I believe this is not entirely a bad idea but does this mean the younger drivers with road rage and common aggression behind the wheel have to pass an anger management class if pulled over for reckless driving, I mean fair is fair right!!
Thanks! It’s not a bad idea. Safety is very paramount in this situation. I will adhere to this rules with all my heart!
If you trade freedoms for safety you will have neither remember that
No tickets, no accidents, exemption. Look at all problem drives. I see accidents all the time. Those involved don’t include seniors. Where is the ACLU when you need them?
I can see it from a safety standpoint. But for those of us that know how to drive with NO ACCIDENTS, it seems like a waste of $$.
