Key Terms of the Settlement

Under the settlement agreement, Amazon must implement substantial changes to ensure clarity and transparency moving forward. Among the required improvements:

Changes to Enrollment

  • Sign-up screens must use simple and explicit wording, such as “Join Prime,” rather than implying a shipping upgrade.
  • The exact membership cost must appear clearly on the page, along with the renewal date and automatic billing information.
  • Options to decline Prime must be displayed as prominently as the option to join.

Changes to Cancellation

  • Cancelling must not be difficult, costly, confusing, or time-consuming.
  • Auto-renewal must be easy to disable.
  • Amazon cannot hide or bury cancellation options through misleading or excessive screens.

Yes, I thought I was getting free shipping and instead it was a subscription for free shipping and charging monthly for it. Then trying to cancel it was a nightmare! I think that I should get more than they are giving out because I lost a lot of money because of this!
