10 Most Valuable American Dimes (And What Makes Them Worth So Much)

Another interesting error comes from 1970, when a few dimes intended to have the San Francisco “S” mint mark were struck without it. These coins are far less common than regular issues and can fetch a few hundred dollars depending on condition.

While not as rare as some other error coins, they are still highly sought after by collectors who specialize in mint mark varieties.

4. 1972 Roosevelt Dime

At first glance, the 1972 dime may seem ordinary—and in most cases, it is. Circulated examples are typically worth only their face value. However, coins in pristine condition can sell for significantly more.

The real standout is the highest-grade proof version, which has sold for thousands of dollars at auction. This shows how condition can dramatically impact a coin’s value, even if the coin itself is not particularly rare.
